The excavator idler controls the running direction of the track chassis. When the equipment needs to turn, the excavator idler adjusts the tension of the track cylinder assy to balance the tension and ensure that the track is in a fixed running trajectory, preventing the track from slipping or derailing. When walking, we should avoid sudden turns and overloading, otherwise it may cause dynamic imbalance of the excavator idler during operation, leading to a series of problems.
At the Terris factory, we have developed a large number of OEM models of excavator front idlers, including the design and processing of over 360 idlers from host brands such as Komatsu, Caterpillar, Volvo, Hitachi, Doosan, and Liebherr. Considering that the front idlers of excavators also have the function of dispersing the weight of the equipment itself and reducing shock, they can alleviate the impact caused by rough terrain during operation. We have adopted two schemes to produce the wheel body of the front idlers. The first scheme adopts the roll forging process, which heats the blank and passes through multiple continuous processes to press and roll the wheel surface, gradually forming the wheel surface. This process improves the material utilization and fatigue strength of the wheel surface, and can also reduce transportation costs while ensuring the stability of the product. The second option is the casting process, which uses the traditional sand casting method. This process produces excavator idlers with low cost, but it can easily cause air holes and sand holes inside the wheel body, leading to wheel surface defects. Based on the formed wheel body raw material, we also need to perform induction heat treatment on the wheel surface to strengthen the surface hardness in deep layers, with a minimum depth of 5MM, to ensure the friction hardness between the excavator guide wheel and the chain rail contact surface.
